"...the greatest sportswriter of his generation..."
Bill O'Herlihy, The Irish Times

"...the funniest book of sportswriting ever published in Ireland. His account of some of the goings-on in Saipan is grim, grippingly written, sad, and hilarious."
Joseph O'Connor, Sunday Independent

"...pure enjoyment and certainly one of the best books on journalism and sport ever published."
John Connolly, Sunday Independent

Detailed Description

Price: €11.99

The life of a sportswriter - from Salt Lake City to Saipan and back again, a tape recorder in one hand, and in the other, an economy ticket for the flight just departed.

In his own inimitable style, Tom Humphries contemplates one year spent among his professional tribe. He reflects on how to be critical one day and sycophantic the next; how to make all sports people sound the same; and how to get to the wrong place at precisely the wrong time. He ponders the fine art of ghostwriting (or putting 100,000 words into somebody else's mouth) and considers why getting sued is quicker than actually burning money.
